- Choose TWO options your dog would like and is able to digest well from the list of chews below: For example, one 6 pack of bully sticks and one 6 pack of pig ears. These are what the dogs get at nighttime to keep them busy. Blue words are links to good brands. If you'd like a variety or your dog is picky, you can also choose more than two options listed at lower quantities, but you must bring at least 12 chews total. For example, 6 bully sticks, 3 pig ears, 2 tracheas and 1 yak cheese chew. Please do not get anything that is not listed on this approved list and please make sure to get listed sizes unless you have a dog under 30 lbs.
- Six 6inch or 12inch bully sticks- Regular, jumbo or braided, please do not get the thin variety as they do not last.
- Six large pig ears
- Six beef tracheas- 6 inches or longer
- Six cod or salmon skin chews- a good option for dogs with allergies. The 4.7 oz tube in the example linked.
- Six Purina Prime Bones- Venison, Large size
- Six Pork Chomps- Twistz, Earz, Donuts, Pressed or Braids (These are not rawhide, they're highly digestible pig skin)
- Six Purina Busy Bones (preferably twisted or chewnola)- small/medium size. MAKE SURE THEY AREN'T MINI SIZE.
- Soft Training Treats- Choose ONE of the following:
- 1 large (200 ct) bag of Bil-Jac Original Recipe training treats (This is our preference)
- 2 bags of America's Vet dogs which help veterans get service dogs (Our other preference)
- 1 tub of freeze dried beef liver (14 oz or 21 oz) or freeze dried salmon- These are a very healthy natural treat and the dogs go nuts for them. (Our preference if you can afford to splurge a little, but not necessary if you can't, the dogs love the Bil-Jacs too)
- 1 bag of grain free recipe Bil-Jac treats (if the other two varieties are not available, or dog has grain allergies)
- 1 bag of Little Jacs (Our preference for dogs under 30 lbs)
- 1 bag of Pet Botanics (If you can't find the others or your dog doesn't like them)
- 1 large bag of Crazy Dog Train-Me treats (If you can't find the others or your dog doesn't like them)
- If your dog has an allergy, please get 2-3 bags (totaling 10-12 oz) of an uncommon protein source treat. Such as Salmon, Rabbit, Lamb, Duck or Venison. Some brands include Merrick Power Bites, Natural Balance mini rewards Limited Ingredient, Blue Buffalo Wild Bits, or freeze dried raw. Contact us if there is a dietary concern.
- If you would like your dog to learn the command "Place" please also purchase a cot bed for them to use, click the blue link for our brand recommendation. Size large (42") will fit most large/extra large dogs. We will not teach this command without the cot. We will not use beds, blankets, etc.
- PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANYTHING NOT LISTED ABOVE: Bedding, toys, and chew bones (aside from the ones listed here) can be a safety/sanitary hazard. Bowls are provided here, and we have plenty of toys for fun time.

Mary Toll "Noelle," Aussie mix and "Bella," Lab mix.
Mary was having problems with her Australian shepherd mix, Noelle. She couldn't be near other dogs with lunging at them. Worse, she and Mary's other dog Bella would get into spats with each other. After each dog stayed for two week training, Mary says "They are completely different dogs! I'm so grateful to Shelly for restoring peace in my home and helping me to gain control."

"I just got my Charlie back from a 2 week training at Stonehill. I couldn't be happier! I walked him in the Clio parade and took him to the carnival. He was a rockstar! Amazing around people, especially children. Considering having him trained to be a Therapy Dog. Thank you Stonehill!!"

"My Stonehill puppy is 6 months old and went through the two week training with Shelly. I can't begin to tell you how amazing she is now! Thank you Shelly, for all you do for your dogs, even when you're going through difficult times. You put your whole heart into our puppies and it shows! Anyone questioning is the training worth it. I am assuring you it will be the best money spent, after of course, getting a puppy! Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!"

Laurie and Al DuBruck "Emma," a German Shepherd
While it was very, very hard to leave our 5-month-old Emma for two weeks, we knew she would come back a much better-behaved dog - and she did. We had trouble getting solid results at home in training “Leave It,” and “Heel,” but when we came back to work with Shelly for the two hour “Puppy and Parent Review,” our lovely Emma executed flawless heels both on and off leash - with NO pulling while on leash. Additionally, Emma was taught an extended down-stay that still lasts many, many minutes if we want it to. Shelly’s ability to get Emma to respect and follow without fail the “leave it” command was probably life-saving on more than a few occasions in Emma’s young life and will no doubt protect her in the future.
Shelly’s use of positive dog training methods and her masterful understanding of and communication with dogs is just as evident as her
love for them. On the several occasions we have been to Stonehill Kennels, we have never failed to see Shelly wearing a treat pouch,
dispensing treats or verbal positive reinforcements. She’s pretty darn good with positive reinforcements and verbally instructing we people owned by dogs (in the context of dog training), too!
We’re both trained as teachers and have worked with students of all ages. Ananda Emerald Rose von Stonehill (Emma) is our fourth dog and third GSD. We know how hard and rewarding both teaching and dog training can be. While our appreciation for the entire Stonehill staff and operation is great, our respect for Shelly’s ability to train dogs and teach the people who love them knows no bounds. Without Stonehill Kennels and Shelly Powell’s astounding breeding and training abilities, we wouldn’t be enjoying the experience of living with Emma, our terrific, incredible, once-in-a-lifetime dog.

Tracy McHugh and "Niall," an Alaskan Malamute
"We took our rescued Alaskan Malamute to Stonehill for the two week board and train program. Shelly did an amazing job. I couldn't believe the difference. He went from uncontrollable to a really well behaved boy. I recommend Stonehill over and over again."

Tonya and Dan Davis with "Kojak," a German shepherd
"About a year ago my husband and I were given a four month old male German Shepherd He is a high energy, strong dog that demands your continuous attention, primarily to play fetch. He would set his toy on one of our laps and nudge you with his snout with such force that we resorted to sitting on our hands to deny him access.
My husband and I have both been around dogs all of our lives and consider ourselves accomplished dog owners. For the past year we have been trying to train Kojak with little success. We taught him to sit and he would if you had his fetch toy in your hand, but, if we are out back with him and there's a squirrel in the yard he refused to acknowledge that we were there. He was developing bad habits and we realized that this breed is different and "we" as in all three of us needed training.
We turned to Shelly at Stonehill Kennels for help and in two weeks she was able to bring Kojak under control and patiently teach us how to curb his demanding behavior. Shelly taught us to be firm with our directives, enthusiastic with our praise and generous with his treats. Kojak's turnaround is remarkable. He still is a happy dog with lots of energy. He still loves to play fetch, but now, when we say enough, he no longer "mouths" our hands to continue. We can now take Kojak for walks and not have him tugging our arms off. We are very satisfied with the care, and training that Shelly gave our dog and to be honest we are shocked at the difference in Kojak, he listens and is very eager to learn it just took a good trainer to teach him and us.
Thanks again,
Tonya & Dan Davis"

"My wife and I couldn't be happier with the results in our Mini Australian Shepherd (Bailey). Shelly and Stonehill kennels were awesome in his training. Couldn't be happier. We will definitely be back for the puppy socials and will explore more training opportunities with Shelly (when time allows :) )"
Since this review, Bailey has been a staple at our puppy socials. He loves playing with the big dogs and being "an honorary GSD"

Denielle Furton and "Jovie," a German Shepherd
"Hi Stacy,
I meant to drop you a line closer to Christmas but things got a little busy around here. I just wanted to let you know Jovie is doing well and we’re all very appreciative of all the work you put into training her. She far exceeded our expectations on how she handled the stress of new people in our home, and I am so proud of how she’ll stay calm and gentle around the baby. (Mostly she sniffs her cheek and then we tell her to lay down and stay nearby. Olivia thinks it’s absolutely fantastic!) The older two girls have also taken well to using the same commands and treats as you showed my mom and me.
Thank you again for your hard work!

They're great. Truly impressed and happy with the progress of my dog, Bailey. I didn't have the right tools in my toolbelt to work with Bailey the way she needed... I've never had a high strong, and high energy dog before. Now she's equipped with training and I was shown what I need to do to keep working with her. Thanks so much!

David Richardson and "Winnie," a Mini Bernedoodle
Overall a very good experience. We were looking for positive reinforcement training and prices varied greatly. Stonehill provided an exceptional value for training and we liked the fact that there kennel was indoor/ outdoor, they went on walks and also had playtime.
We have a 25 lb mini Bernedoodle and were worried about surrounding her with big dogs/GSD. During training that exposure to GSD has made her significantly less reactive when she sees other dogs on walks. Her walking was awful prior to training, it is now enjoyable - what a transformation! Stacy laid a great foundation that we have been applying in our house. Our puppy was a talker prior and now understands the word Quiet which is still a work in process but so much better. I would highly recommend Stonehill and Stacy.

Sara Smith and "Axel," a German Shepherd
I was nervous about a two week board and train, but after, I wish we had done it sooner for our young GSD. I’m not a first time dog owner, but he is my first dog reactive as him. I had gotten to the point where I had tried everything I could and had just felt defeated. Some days I could walk him fine, others were filled with drama and stress. When we were on walks it looked like I was a first time dog owner and he had never been let out of the house before. Sooooo not the case. I walk him daily and take him to new places all the time, but he’d act just as crazy every time. After two weeks, he came back with such better manners, I was bummed I had waited. He’s much more confident, “leave-it” when passing his stressors has been a game changer. Every time he gets less nervous when we pass by. Walked by a dog lunging at him just yesterday and he turned to me instead of being dramatic. My arm no longer aches trying to get him to heel. He even waits to walk out the door instead of just blasting through. I’ve had huge Rhodesian Ridgebacks who love to chase and I’ve never had them take me out going through a door. He’s been back for boarding (and will continue to do so) and gives them a welcome like he gives me! He loves the place and is a better dog because of them. Thank you Stacy and Stonehill!!!

Allison Unsicker and "Duncan" a German Shepherd/Pit mix
Our 7 month old German Shepherd/ staffie mix just completed training and what a difference! He’s so much more attentive and excited to train. You could tell he adored Stacy. We very much appreciated the consistent updates and how thorough she was when we picked him up. She answered every question and reviewed absolutely everything they had worked on over the two weeks. Would 100% recommend. She honestly seems like a dog whisperer.

Patty Fox and "Jack," a German Shepherd
Our six month old Stonehill German Shepherd Jack returned home last week from his two week board and train, and although we missed him like crazy, it was a great experience that we would recommend to all dog owners. Stacy trained Jack with heel, sit, down, stay, leave it, and more. When I arrived to pick him up Stacy showed me all the training routines they worked on and had me practice each one with Jack under her guidance. We've been doing our 'homework' with Jack supported by what Stacy taught me to help Jack succeed as well as the very helpful Stonehill obedience command reference sheets she sent with us. (Jack has retained and recalls Stacy's training so it's easy to keep polishing it up) On our trip to Petco the other day Jack really impressed with his great behavior - going in, shopping the store, and back to the car through the parking lot was a breeze! (and I know it would not have been so without this training!!) Getting a pup from Stonehill and doing the training there has insured we have a truly spectacular new family member

Rob Hoogenstyn and "Dallas," a German Shepherd/Husky mix
We recently sent our 2-year-old male Shepherd/Husky mix (Dallas) to the 2-week board and train while we were away on vacation. He had been through basic obedience before, but we felt like he had some issues that needed to be worked on - mainly fear of some men and other dogs, as well as consistent obedience. Stacy did a wonderful job with him. She worked on a "place" command to use when people enter our home, and he is doing very well with it. He is also heeling fantastic on a leash now. Stacy also walked us through many things to practice and continue to work on with him to help him. I'm very pleased with his progress during the board and train, Stacy laid a great foundation for us to build upon with him.

We are so thrilled with Cash's behavior after the two week board and train. We are still receiving compliments from the employees at his doggie daycare about what a well behaved dog he has become since he got back from Stonehill. We were dealing with some issues with being reactive to people and other dogs which has been largely eliminated, and now we are able to go on walks throughout the neighborhood and take him anywhere we'd like without it being a stressful situation. Stacy did such a wonderful job!

Erin Tellas and "Kimber," a German Shepherd
Stonehill kennels is the best! Their two week board and train program is more than worth it! Kimber had problems with fixating on other dogs and animals. Since picking her up I can finally get her to leave my older dog and cat alone. She took off after the horses today, but when told to "leave it" she stopped and looked at me. As soon as I told her to come, she came back right away and was happy to do it! That never would have happened before! The money put into training was worth it just for that moment. I can't recommend Stacy and Stonehill enough!

We’re so happy with the results of Frank’s two-week board and train at Stonehill. He is very sharp with his commands now and is so much better behaved around the house. He will even “sit” and “down” for our two year old daughter. The best part is that they trained us too! The patience that Stacy showed while teaching us the commands and watching us practice with Frank shows she cares. This has been a positive experience for Frank and our family — I highly recommend Stonehill Kennel’s training program.
